Try your hand at picking your very own fruits and veggies at our picks for 18 fresh, family-friendly farms that offer PYO (pick-your-own) produce outside of the city from now until late October. Blueberry and peach season usually lasts until early September, but there are still chances to take home the last of the harvest. You’ll also find plenty of opportunities for September tomato picking, fresh flowers, and other delicious veggies. Iconic New England apple picking usually begins now and lasts through late October, and many farms are also gearing up to open their pumpkin patches too! At these farms, there’s something for everyone— including hard cider taprooms, food trucks, live music, and more.

Cider Hill Farm 🍺

Where: Amesbury | 42.6 miles from Downtown 

When: Daily, 8am - 5pm

Info: Cider Hill Farm’s the best place for family fun. Whether you’re shopping at the farm market, picking produce, enjoying a fall hayride, or grabbing food (either at the daily food trucks or their very own restaurant, The PitchFORK), there’s something for everyone. Now, you can come home with a carload of apples, pumpkins, peaches, and the last of the blueberries— or even better, stay all night at the hard cider bar and jam out to live music. 

Hyland Orchard 🍺

Where: Sturbridge | 61.8 miles from Boston

When: Starting Sep. 16, Sa-Su, Hours TBA

Info: Hyland Orchard opens on Sep. 17, and will offer apple picking every Saturday and Sunday! The orchard grows everything from Galas to Granny Smiths. Also, we’ll let you in on a little secret: it has some of the best brews around. Here, you can take a tour of Rapscallion Pub before enjoying a pint of local lager. The farm also offers tractor rides and live music! 

Carlson Orchards 🍺

Where: Harvard | 34.1 miles from Downtown

Info: Carlson Orchards is the apple of our eye. In early September, they offer Gloria and Bounty peaches, Ginger Good apples, and limited blueberries for picking. When the blueberry and peach season ends, don’t worry. Their expansive orchard offers plenty of apples, so you can pick to your heart's content. Plus, all their products are all 100% natural, so check out their farm stand— their sweet cider is the best of the best. Also, grab a hard cider cocktail or flatbread pizza at their Cider Barn taproom. 

Douglas Orchard & Farm 

Where: Douglas | 56.9 miles from Boston

When: Fr-Su, 9am - 5pm

Info: Douglas Orchard and Farm has delicious apples throughout the orchard. After filling your basket, why not unwind with a stroll through the scenic landscape? 

Sholan Farms 🍺

Where: Leominster | 45.6 miles from Downtown

What: Starting in August, this adorable farm offers hiking trails and an abundance of pick-your-own-apple opportunities. Don’t miss out on weekends with Bullspit Brewing Company.

Langwater Farm

Where: North Easton | 23.9 miles from Downtown

Info: Langwater Farm offers a number of pick-your-own crops including pumpkins, strawberries, raspberries, and flowers. While you’re on site, stop by the farm store for fresh produce grown on the farm and grocery items from local businesses.

Honey Pot Hill Orchards

Where: Stow | 27.7 miles from Downtown

When: Daily, 9am - 6pm

Info: The apple season stretches through October, so there will be plenty of opportunities to bake that fresh apple pie. Make sure to say hi to the farm animals and taste the self-proclaimed “addictive” and freshly pressed apple cider. 

Russell Orchards 🍺

Info: No matter your age, you’ll find fun at Russell Orchards. Starting Sep. 2, apples are available! And after your active day, relax on the outdoor wine patio. Kids can enjoy a cider slushy while parents sip on a tasting flight of award-winning fruit wines.

Meadowbrook Orchards

Where: Sterling | 44.9 miles from Downtown

When: Tu-Su, 7am - 5pm

Info: Meadowbrook Orchards has crisp fall apples available now. Through October, you can pick four varieties: Cortland, McIntosh, Macoun, and Empire! The Orchards are also well-known in Sterling for its iconic Thursday night BBQ (vegetarian options included). And when you’re not devouring food at the restaurant, you might be playing disc golf on their 100-acre property.

Red Apple Farm 🍺

Where: Phillipston | 65.7 miles from Downtown

Info: There are plenty of pick-your-own opportunities for apples, sunflowers and pumpkins. Blueberries are almost gone, but you can still pluck the last of the summer berries before the season ends. 

Stowe Farm 🍺

Where: Millbury | 46.2 miles from Downtown

Info: Though the apple crop suffered some unfortunate setbacks this year, the pumpkin crop at Stowe Farm is flourishing and ready to be picked! Whether you’re looking to make pumpkin pie from scratch, carve jack-o-lanterns, or decorate with beautiful, locally-grown produce, Stowe is the place to make those fall memories happen.

Brooksby Farm

Where: Peabody | 19.4 miles from Downtown

When: Tu-Sa, 9am - 4pm

Info: Brooksby Farm offers festive fall events and delicious picking opportunities. Current crops include plenty of apples, cherry tomatoes, and fresh flowers! Starting Sep. 1, apple cider will be available in the farm store, so make sure to grab a cozy cup. Once autumn hits, you can also explore the Fall Fairytale Trail, ride on fun hayrides, enjoy campfires (and s’mores) on the weekends, meet the barnyard animals, and munch on their famous cider donuts.


Wards Berry Farm

Where: Sharon | 27.2 miles from Downtown

Info: You won’t need to go grocery shopping for weeks. At Wards Berry Farm, carrots, cherry tomatoes, plum tomatoes, beans, snack peppers, and lots of flowers are in excellent picking condition. Raspberries are reopening for picking and peaches, nectarines and grapes are reopening for picking as well. These fruits won’t last quite as long, so make your way over before the height of autumn. They also have hayrides, picnic areas, play areas for the kiddos, and plenty of food opportunities, including a smoothie bar and sandwich counter. 

Tangerini’s Farm 🍺

Where: Millis | 31.5 miles from Downtown

Info: Tangerini’s Farm has a heavenly harvest. Head over now to pick your own apples, tomatoes, and the last of their sunflowers. In September, pumpkin picking opens for the season, plus fun hayrides for family fun.The farm also offers some of the best ice cream around— scoops straight from Maple Valley Creamery. Plus, don’t forget to check out their amazing restaurant, The Farmer’s Porch.

Parlee Farms

Where: Tyngsboro | 37.5 miles from Downtown

Info: Apple, pumpkin, and flower picking galore! There’s so much to choose from at Parlee Farms. Apples are available now, and pumpkins open mid-September (ideal for pies or doorstep decorations). Plus, check out the animal barn and Mary’s Country Kitchen, where you can grab an apple crisp!

Nashoba Valley Winery 🍺

Where: Bolton | 44.1 miles from Downtown
