Fall is officially upon us! As the sweaters come out and the pumpkin spice lattes waft across the Boston Common, put a few of these fall festivals into your calendar. From dynamic film festivals to classic New England farm festivals, these events will help you settle comfortably into the cozy season.

Smolak Farms Fall Festival

When: Every weekend through 10/30

Where: North Andover

Cost: Free-$30

Info: Experience an authentic New England fall festival every weekend at Smolak Farms. Enjoy live music, hayrides, a cow train, arts and crafts, pumpkin and apple picking, and concessions. One weekend is even Disney themed! 

The Great Northeast Jug Band Festival

Where: Arlington

Info: Celebrating “good time” music from the 1920s and ‘30s through the present day, The Great Northeast Jug Band Festival will have danceable live music outdoors all day long.

CollegeFest at Fenway

Info: College students with a valid student ID are welcomed to Boston with the ultimate moving-in experience: a free festival in Fenway Park. Listen to live music and collect swag from beloved brands while you meet other local students.

Lansdowne Country Fest

Ignite: A Global Street Food, Fire & Light Festival

Info: A tribute to Union Square’s “sizzling” food landscape, the Ignite Festival features international eats, wild entertainment, fire throwers, live music, light installations, face painting, balloon artists, and street games.

Boston Veg Food Fest

Info: Embrace a plant-based lifestyle, or just learn about one, at this comprehensive festival. Sample foods, listen to chef and lifestyle speakers, and shop a marketplace of products geared towards a more sustainable food industry. 

Taiwan Film Festival of Boston

When: Saturday, 10/1 to Sunday, 10/2

Where: Downtown Boston

Cost: $18

Info: The Taiwan Film Festival of Boston will showcase short and feature length films around this year’s theme of “Crack and Light.” Eight films related to this concept will be screened at the AMC Boston Common.

MassRobotics 5th Annual Robot Block Party

When: Saturday, 10/1

Where: Seaport

Cost: Free

Info: Join more than 40 companies as they come together to show off their latest robotic technology in the Seaport. Watch robotic demonstrations, play games, and interact with the robots in a hands-on environment.

Harvest Festival at Verrill Farm

When: Sunday, 10/2

Where: Concord

Cost: $20

Info: Ring in the fall season with a Harvest Festival straight out of Gilmore Girls. Enjoy food, music, games, prizes, pumpkin patches, and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit Pumpkins for Pediatrics at Emerson Hospital.

Smoke This Rib Fest

When: Sunday, 10/2 

Where: East Cambridge

Info: Local pitmasters face off at this festival for the title of best ribs in town. Enjoy piled-high plates of barbecue, live music, games, and more. Bring your best Gordon Ramsey face to judge between dishes.

Harpoon Dogtoberfest

When: Sunday, 10/2 

Where: Seaport

Cost: $20+

Info: Bring your pup to the fluffiest event of the season, a party at Harpoon where you and they can enter costume, trick, and look-a-like contests. Enjoy Harpoon beers and snacks from an on-site food truck, there will even be a dog-friendly beer available for your furry friend. Proceeds from the event go to the Kenary Brain Tumor Research Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and MSPCA – Angell.

Cambridge Science Festival

When: Monday, 10/3 to Sunday, 10/9

Where: Cambridge

Cost: Free

Info: This week-long festival celebrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) with a series of fun and interactive activities, demonstrations, workshops, and performances. The festival also heralds the official opening to the public of the Broad Discovery Center, run by MIT and Harvard.

HONK! Festival

When: Friday, 10/7 to Sunday, 10/9

Where: Somerville

Cost: Free

Info: The HONK! Festival of Activist Street Bands in Somerville is a raucous weekend of music, performances, and over-the-top spectacle. Listen to music, participate in art making, march in the parade, and stand up for social justice all in one place.

Apple Booze Bash

When: Saturday, 10/8

Where: Everett

Cost: Free Admission

Info: Kelvin Street in Everett will shut down for the day in this vibrant celebration of apple booze, food, and live music. You’ll feel fall in full force with seasonal cocktails, local food trucks, spiked apple cider flights, and jams from local artists.

Armenian Festival of Creativity & Community

When: Saturday, 10/8 to Sunday, 10/9

Where: Watertown

Cost: Free

Info: This festival celebrating Armenian culture features food, music, Zumba, and family-friendly activities. More than 40 artists and vendors with connections to the Armenian community will be on display as well.

43rd Annual Harvard Square Oktoberfest

When: Sunday, 10/9

Where: Cambridge

Cost: Free

Info: Listen to live music on multiple stages, sample food from an array of international vendors, make crafts, and sip brews in the on-site beer garden. The HONK! Festival parade will come through Harvard Square at 1pm so you get two festivals in one place!

Opening Our Doors Festival

When: Monday, 10/10

Where: Fenway

Cost: Free

Info: Enjoy FREE cultural experiences all day in the Fenway neighborhood, including admission to museums like the MFA, the Gardner Museum, and MAAM. Experience vibrant performances and activities throughout the neighborhood all day long.

Boston Public Market Harvest Party

When: Wednesday, 10/12

Where: North End

Cost: $50+

Info: Boston Public Market’s annual Harvest Party is not to be missed. Enjoy an open bar (for the first part of the night), bites from the food vendors around the market, live music, dancing, raffles, and more. Best of all, the ticket proceeds go towards field trips for Boston Public School students.

Boston Palestine Film Festival

When: Friday, 10/14 to Sunday, 10/23

Where: Around Boston

Cost: Free+

Info: The Boston Palestine Film Festival has been bringing films about Palestine to the city for 16 years. Watch films and participate in Q&As with directors and filmmakers live and in person at this year’s festival.

Where: Canton

Cost: $10

Info: Join the dog brand Polkadog for a warehouse sale of treats, toys, and puppy-friendly products. Dogs come out en masse for this sale and they’re encouraged to dress up in costumes. The best-dressed dogs win a gift card and food and beverages will be available on site.

Boston Book Festival

When: Saturday, 10/29

Where: Back Bay

Cost: Free

Info: Celebrate the power of words at this all-day festival featuring lectures, workshops, author talks, live music, food trucks, and many other events centered on books and reading. There’s no better time to find your next read or work up the courage to ask for an autograph from your favorite author. 

Boston Jewish Film Festival

When: Wednesday, 11/2 to Sunday, 11/13

Where: Around Boston

Cost: $15+

Info: The Boston Jewish Film Festival is the largest film-based organization in New England, welcoming 15,000 guests annually to view films by Jewish filmmakers and about Jewish life. Watch screenings around the city and participate in associated events during the festival.
