A sustainable future for our Earth calls for a diverse contribution of talents, including the arts. Songs for the Earth is a benefit concert for Mass Audubon’s educational programs.
The afternoon starts with educational activities including a nature-themed craft for families, a reading of “The Tide is Rising, So Are We!” by Rabbi Shoshana Meira Friedman, and a presentation about sustainability and chocolate by Dr. Lori Shapiro of Suenõs Cacao.
The concert includes the world premiere of a newly-composed piece by SSC String Chair, Christine Delphine Hedden, commissioned by the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music as part of the Composing Earth initiative. Guest artists Lindsay Straw (folk-singer), Kate Knudsvig (violin/fiddle), Kat Wallace (violin/fiddle), Corley Friesen-Johnson (viola), Ariel Friedman (cello), and Annick Odom (bass) will collaborate in the new commission and be featured as soloists.
After the concert, there will be a market of local music by the artists, chocolate by Suenõs Cacao, and relevant books from Book Love for sale in the lobby.
As a community arts organization, South Shore Conservatory’s future commitment to environmental action will be at the heart of what it means to serve our community: recognizing every person’s gifts as valuable and that together, we all contribute to a better future for our world.
