Looking for ways to give back to the Greater Boston community? Join Silver Lining Mentoring, whose mission is to connect mentors with young people in the foster care system. All you need is an open heart, an open mind, and a willingness to listen!
The need: While mentors from all over Greater Boston are welcome, there is a particular need right now for those with access to a vehicle living in the Waltham, Needham, and Lynn areas.
The impact you can make: 10,000+ young people in foster care across Massachusetts need support. Through consistent mentorship, you can help provide stability, connection, and guidance. 84% of youth in Silver Lining Mentoring report increased self-confidence, stronger social connections, and personal growth.
How to get involved: Mentors must be 21+ and can come from any background. While applicants from across Greater Boston are encouraged to apply, those with access to a vehicle and proximity to the Lexington/Waltham area are especially needed at this time. Applications are open now. Submit by June 30.
What exactly will I be doing? In this role, you’ll be paired one-on-one with a young person ages 7+ in foster care through SLM’s Community Based Mentoring program. Mentors spend time with their mentees out in the community, building supportive relationships through shared activities and consistent connection over the course of at least one year. This is a great way to make a difference in a time when we need to lean more on each other.
Everyone is welcome to apply, especially male mentors, mentors of color, and those with access to a vehicle living in the Waltham, Needham, and Lynn areas. Submit your application today by June 30. Learn more & apply today.
A story that started it all
Silver Lining Mentoring was founded by Justin Pasquariello, who knows foster care firsthand. After years of moving between homes, he found stability with a foster family that ultimately adopted him. Later, as a Harvard freshman, Justin became a mentor and realized how one person can change a life. Inspired, he created a program to serve youth in foster care – a program that continues to grow and change lives in Greater Boston.
