ResistARTS is a new collaboration between Hoopla Productions (Jamaica Plain Porchfest) and Wee the People, in which we host a series of participatory and performing arts-based events to foster community building and raise funds for local organizations that empower marginalized people. At the January 5th event, you'll meet members of these local non-profits and learn about the great work they do.

So get ready for a good time and come support some worthy causes!

Location: J.P. Licks
Artist: Resistioke & Ashley Rose and friends
To Benefit: City Life/Vida Urbana
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 PM
Description:
Resistioke: Sing together, resist fear, welcome all - Resistioke! is live-band, group karaoke with a twist: We'll be singing (with you!) pop tunes that respond to our politically divisive times.

Ashley Rose is a renowned poet, educator, activist, and youth organizer; she will be accompanied by some of the youth spoken word artists from Lena Park CDC, where she is manager of arts programs.

Location: City Feed and Supply
Artist: Wee The People
"Re-Read Me A Story: Socially Conscious Storytime for Adults"
To Benefit: English for New Bostonians-English Works
Time: 7:00 - 8:00 PM
Description: Remember when your parents read stories to you? Grab a hot chocolate, sit down on the rug- criss-cross apple sauce of course! And listen to classic childrens stories that have a socially conscious theme. These stories will be read by Tanya Nixon-Silberg, storyteller and co-founder of Wee The People.

Location: On Centre
Artist: Aisha Burns
To Benefit: Bikes Not Bombs
Time: 6:30-7:30PM
Hailing from central Texas, Aisha Burns is a violinist and singer-songwriter. With an affinity for folk songs, instrumental minimalism and powerful vocals, Aisha seeks the union of these three often disparate elements to create a dynamic and nuanced ambient folk sound. Called "one of the most arresting recent releases," by Dazed Magazine and praised by NPR, her debut record explores mortality and relationships with candor and wisdom.
