As a continuation of our event, Alien Adornment: 50 Years of Star Trek Jewelry, this two-day class demonstrates how to reproduce an original Star Trek ring worn during the show! Perfect for fans of Hollywood or novice jewelers, this course will guide students through the process of casting jewelry pieces in bronze. An RTV mold of the ring will be made and hand-cut for injection purposes. This will be used to inject wax copies of the ring which will then be set up for casting on the following day. Each person will make one ring in bronze by the end the workshop.
Come learn the process of lost wax casting which has been used to make jewelry and all sorts of adornments for thousands of years. Get ready to watch your injected wax get cast into bronze during day two of our workshop series. You’ll learn how to finish, polish, and brighten your ring before wearing it to show off to friends.
This class will be taught by guest Instructor, Dan Grandi, owner of Racecar Jewelry with years of experience in casting, molding and jewelry making.
In this class you will learn:
RTV Molding (Room Temperature Vulcanizing) sounds Like Startrek!
Wax injecting and set up
Burn out and casting using a Torch
Investment removal and clean up.
Sprue Grinding and metal clean up
Some hand polishing and brightening
