1:00 PM to 2:00 PM - Meet the authors
7:00 PM to 8:30 PM - Building Community lecture / book signing / wine & cheese
At 7 PM, co-authors David and Jay Ball will present Building Community: Sacred and Secular, a multimedia exploration of how the Ark Builders, a group of men from Temple Israel in Natick, have impacted each others’ lives, the lives of their fellow congregants and the wider community. Using examples from the Ark Builders’ nearly 30 years of exquisite woodworking projects, they will show how the group achieved their continued success, navigated pitfalls and improved the lives of those around them. The Balls will share their belief that building things is better than buying them, that doing so in a group is better than depending on a small number of craftsmen, and that a disparate band of men and women can become a community through the work of their hands.
Ark Builders: Worship Through Woodworking is a beautiful coffee-table book, and will be on sale at both events. It makes a wonderful holiday gift, and the authors will be happy to autograph your copies.
