Calling all local artists! Come chat with artist Ja'Hari Ortega about her experience securing fellowships, residencies, and exhibition opportunities in the Boston area. Community discussion is part of the program, so come with questions and a willingness to share your own experience, as well!
Ja’Hari Ortega (she/her) is a multidisciplinary Boston-based artist, educator, and advocate who uses a vernacular language to capture the pulse of her city. Primarily drawn to metal sculpture, jewelry-making, and performance, Ortega received her BFA from the nation’s first and only public independent college of art and design, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, followed by a diploma in jewelry-making & repair from the longest continually operating trade school in the U.S., the North Bennet Street School.
Ortega finds joy in using her artistic practice to engage and support her community: as one example, she was a panelist for Radical Imagination for Racial Justice, an initiative which invites Boston-based artists and creatives of color to imagine and co-create justice with their communities. Since graduating Ja'Hari has exhibited works in various galleries and showcases across multiple states, participated in numerous residencies and fellowships, and has taught art focused classes and workshops for all ages. The residencies and fellowships include Surf Point in Maine (2023), the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida (2023), Monson Arts in Maine (2024), and the Creative Entrepreneur Fellowship for the Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston (2025).
