Welcome to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and our 10th-annual Highland Street Foundation Free Fun Friday! Find ten fun things to do today from hands-on art-making activities to engaging tours and thought-provoking exhibitions—all for free. The MFA is one of 100 cultural venues from around the state offering free admission this summer, thanks to support of the Highland Street Foundation.


ONE
Art Making: Pastels
9:30 am–2 pm | Huntington Lawn
Drop in to create a nature-inspired pastel.
RAIN LOCATION: 10 AM–2 PM IN KOCH GALLERY, 250


TWO
Art Making: Watercolors
10 am–4 pm | Education Center in the Druker Family Pavilion, Room 159
Be inspired by the summer season to paint a watercolor in studio art classroom.


THREE
Family Art Cart
10 am–4 pm | Shapiro Family Courtyard
Explore the Museum with one of our family friendly tote bags, includes sketchpad and colored pencils. Pick from a variety of self-guided activities, including puzzles and scavenger hunts!

Family Art Walks: Summertime Fun
10:45 am, 12:15, 1:45 pm | Meet at Sharf Visitor Center
Join MFA Educators on a walk through the galleries to find fun depictions of summertime in paintings, prints, photos, and more!


SIX
Drawing in the Galleries
11 am–4 pm | Shapiro Family Courtyard
Grab a pencil and sketch from a live clothed model, nature, and artwork in the Shapiro Family Courtyard! All ranges of drawing experience welcomed!


SEVEN
MFA Guide
Available at all ticket desks, Sharf Visitor Center, and the Gund Gallery, LG31
Rent a mobile MFA Guide to explore the Museum’s encyclopedic collection, including a Kids’ tour introducing young visitors age 6 to 10 to the Art of the Americas and Contemporary collections.
Nonmembers $6; Members $5; Kids 17 and under $4. Free for visitors who are Deaf or blind.

EIGHT
Artist Toolbox Cart: Painting
5:30–8:30 pm | Gallery 155
Discover how artists turn a blank canvas into a finished pastel or painting. Explore the tools and materials that artists use. Ask questions and discuss techniques.


NINE
Artist Toolbox Cart: Marble Sculpture
5:30–8:30 pm | Gallery 233
Explore the tools and handle the materials that artists use to transform a block of stone into a sculpture. View demonstration pieces that reveal the step-by-step process behind the creation of objects in the Museum’s collection, ask questions and discuss techniques.


TEN
Family- and Kid-Friendly Self-Guiding Materials
Sharf Visitor Center
Pick up an Art Connections activity card to explore writing, chocolate, birds, and other themes (available in English and Spanish); get a My MFA Sketchbook to draw in the galleries; or find the helpful Guide to Family Fun at the MFA (available in English, Spanish, and Chinese) with tips, games, and more for exploring the Museum.

An al fresco spot to purchase snacks, beverages. Weather permitting.


Garden Cafeteria $
10 am–4 pm | Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, Level G
Perfect for families: a comfortable cafeteria offering a salad bar, pizza, sandwiches, snacks, and desserts.
Enjoy seasonal outdoor eating when the weather is nice!


Taste Café and Wine Bar $
10 am–9 pm | Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, Level 1
Coffee, espresso, tea, and wine, as well as sandwiches, salads, and artisanal desserts.


New American Café $$
10 am–8 pm (lunch service begins at 11:30 am) | Shapiro Family Courtyard
Tableside service in the MFA’s soaring glass-enclosed courtyard, featuring creative dishes prepared with fresh local ingredients. Choose from a wide selection of hot and cold small plates, entrées, and salads.


Bravo $$$
11:30 am–3 pm and 5:30–8:30 pm | Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, Level 2
Seasonally inspired cuisine in a modern setting enhance this sophisticated dining experience. Al fresco dining on the patio is available, weather permitting.
Bravo accepts reservations at OpenTable or by calling 617-369-3474. After 5 pm, Bravo dinner guests receive complimentary parking in the MFA’s garage.
