We would like to invite you to a very special concert of hope and resilience. For Our Common Home is based on Pope Francis’ 2015 encyclical, Laudato Si’. Highlighting compassion and solidarity the message focuses on environmental justice, addressing the impact of the planetary crisis on the most vulnerable communities and lifting up humanity’s urgent need to heal our relationship with Earth and each other. The libretto relates the message of solidarity and compassion through various musical traditions transcending stylistic boundaries between classical, jazz, gospel, and klezmer. Vocal styles range from whispered text to full-throated anthems. As Maureen Buja writes in Interlude (2024), “It’s very much an oratorio of today.”
“It is a rare opportunity to present a work that is so timely, critical, and creative in its messaging. It is an honor to perform this piece and an imperative for our audiences to hear it.” (Memorial Church Harvard University Choirmaster and Organist Edward Elwyn Jones)
Pope Francis wrote to the composer. “I very much appreciated your work. Thank you for your sensibility and commitment. The world constantly needs to be made aware of the importance of the care for our common home. Please continue with zeal, joy, and creativity,” (Pope Francis)
The Harvard-Radcliffe Chorus with chamber orchestra and soloists (Stan Strickland, Farayi Malek, Abigale Reisman, J'adon Brooks, Heiraza, George Lernis, and John McGee) perform the new cross-genre oratorio by
Boston composer, Linda J. Chase
