PROGRAM
PRAETORIUS - DANCES FROM TERPSICHORE
MOZART - SINFONIA CONCERTANTE FOR VIOLIN AND VIOLA
IVES - WASHINGTON'S BIRTHDAY FROM NEW ENGLAND HOLIDAY'S SYMPHONY
C.P.E. BACH - SYMPHONY IN D MAJOR
Join us for our first full orchestra concert of the season and a night of dances old and new. The joyous Renaissance dances from Michael Praetorius’s Terpsichore join the full on barn dance of Charles Ives’s Washington’s Birthday from his New England Holidays Symphony. The Ives plays a central role in the night and we’ll be taking you through how Ives, an insurances salesman from Danbury, Connecticut, squeezed every last American folk song he could into an eleven minute masterpiece. Before we wrap up, true to the theme of our season, we’ll share some folk music from the hills of England. Of course, along the way, you’ll find a sprinkling of Phoenix surprises, chance to get to know the musicians of Phoenix, and opportunities to sit in the orchestra and get to know this music as intimately as possible.
