Curtain Call Theatre presents The Crucible by Arthur Miller this May 2026. The production explores fear, power, and mass hysteria in a way that feels especially relevant today. Performances run May 2, 9, and 16 at 7:30 PM, with matinees May 3, 10, and 17 at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $30 and available at www.curtaincallbraintree.org.
This stylistic staging of The Crucible places the story in an undefined time and place, underscoring its timeless relevance. As lies ignite hysteria, a community unravels under the weight of fear and accusation. Featuring original sound, music, projections, and dynamic lighting effects, the production heightens tension and immerses audiences in the emotional and moral chaos at the heart of the story.
Content Advisory:
This production contains mature themes including mass hysteria, persecution, and references to executions, and is recommended for audiences ages 13 and up. The production also includes dynamic lighting and flashing effects that may not be suitable for photosensitive audience members.
Director Toni Ruscio shares, “The Crucible is more than a retelling of the Salem witch trials—it is a powerful reflection on fear, intolerance, and the abuse of power. Across history and into today, societies continue to grapple with cycles of accusation and the marginalization of those who challenge the status quo. This production invites audiences to consider their role in confronting injustice and reminds us that silence allows harmful patterns to persist, while collective courage can break them.”
That perspective is echoed by members of the cast. Actor Amanda Albion, who plays Elizabeth Proctor, adds, “This production of The Crucible is stacked with an incredibly talented cast of actors who bring Arthur Miller’s words to life while honoring the real people of Salem who endured this dark chapter in our history. Director Toni Ruscio’s fearless vision holds up a mirror that we, as Americans—and as human beings—are often too busy or distracted to face. A modern approach to production design—including set, costumes, and technical elements—draws the audience even closer to that reflection.”
Linda Murdock, who plays Abigail Williams, continues, “The Crucible is such a relevant and poignant story to tell. With Toni’s insightful, modern perspective and this inspiring cast, everything feels immediate and important. It has been fascinating to portray such a flawed character and to explore how fear can take control when it is wielded as a weapon. I love being part of this beautiful, supportive theatre company.”
This production marks an exciting chapter in Curtain Call Theatre’s continued growth, with ten cast members making their CCT debut. Both onstage and off, the company continues to foster a creative home that welcomes new voices and perspectives.
