Boston By Foot, Inc., is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization. Inspired by America’s Bicentennial, the organization was founded in 1976 by architectural enthusiast Polly Flansburgh as a way to promote public awareness and appreciation for Boston’s rich history and architectural heritage. Her inspiration and commitment to bringing historical facts to life through storytelling remain a vibrant force throughout our wide selection of guided walking tours.

In addition to our trademark walking tours, we also offer an Architecture Cruise along Boston Harbor and the Charles River featuring spectacular views of the city’s historic and contemporary landscape. This tour is presented in partnership with the Boston Society of Architects and the Charles Riverboat Company.

These tours are created and conducted by a unique gathering of 200+ volunteer guides who love Boston and are passionate about its history. They are a well-trained and enthusiastic group of volunteers who represent diverse backgrounds, many whom have generously served Boston By Foot for more than 10, 20 and even 30 years.
