Martha Seely’s journey to jewelry design began not in a traditional jewelry background, but through the lens of theatrical design. After earning her MFA in Costume Design from Carnegie Mellon University, Martha spent over two decades designing for theater, film, and television, developing a unique perspective on how adornment enhances personal expression.

In 2010, Martha began exploring metalwork as a new creative medium. What started as artistic exploration quickly evolved into a passionate pursuit as she studied with master jewelers, honing her craft and developing her distinctive style. The guidance of her graphic designer during her first website creation proved pivotal—observing her early designs, he noted they evoked celestial imagery and belonged “in the sky.”

This insight became the foundation for Martha’s design philosophy. Drawing inspiration from the Hubble and Chandra telescopes’ breathtaking imagery, she began creating pieces that captured the colors, patterns, and emotional resonance of cosmic phenomena. During the isolation of COVID-19, these vibrant, colorful expressions of universal beauty provided both creative solace and a connection to something larger than ourselves.
