Yoga for Osteoporosis Series 2
with Masha Leuner
6-Week Series in Brookline and on Zoom
Mondays 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
1/9, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13
In this workshop series that covers the second set of postures to improve bone health, students will continue to learn Dr. Fishman’s Yoga for Osteoporosis method, so that they can establish or enrich their own home practice. Specific attention will be given to the spine and hips, where the risk of fractures is greatest. In addition to learning the technical aspects of the yoga postures, students will also work toward gaining more strength, flexibility, and balance, which will improve their overall range of motion. Simple breath work will be incorporated to teach proper hold times and calm the nervous system. While the second series builds on the first, there are no prerequisites and all new students are welcome.
Yoga for Bone Health is a targeted practice developed by Dr. Loren Fishman, MD. It is designed to maintain a healthy skeleton, strengthen posture, and improve balance. This unique set of twenty-four poses was practiced by individuals with osteoporosis in a specialized study. Upon completion, data showed that consistent practice reversed the effects of osteoporosis/osteopenia in the spine and hips. Dr. Fishman's research was featured in The New York Times, and drew public awareness to the potential application of yoga for improving bone condition. Dr. Fishman continues to train yoga instructors in his specialized method, in
addition to studying new postures and conducting long-term studies.
This workshop is open to all levels, regardless of ability, age or medical condition.
$150 for all 6
This series is non-refundable and cannot be pro-rated.
About Masha
Masha Leuner’s first introduction to bone health came when she served as the product manager for the calcium supplement, Citraca l. Through this, she learned the importance of
maintaining a strong skeleton. In collaboration with her talented team, Masha developed and launched a groundbreaking Beauty is Bone Deep campaign, aimed at bringing awareness to bone health. This work was so unique that it was featured on oprah.com. While conducting market research, Masha gained first-hand knowledge about women’s specific bone health needs. It was here she discovered Dr. Fishman’s revolutionary work. A long-time yoga practitioner, Masha always harbored a secret hope that she would someday live her practice.
Following the birth of her second child in 2015, Masha decided to make this dream a reality. She completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training with New School of Yogic Arts at Coolidge Corner Yoga. Since then, Masha has been teaching vinyasa and Yoga for Bone Health classes throughout the Boston area. In 2017, Masha began her advanced studies in Yoga for Osteoporosis with Dr. Fishman and Ellen Saltonstall. Masha is both excited and humbled to bring this knowledge to Boston and become one the first registered Yoga for Osteoporosis teachers in Massachusetts.
