Program Overview

wipCRIT DeepDive is a focused, three-session intensive for artists who have already experienced the transformative power of our critical dialogue process. Facilitated by Mary Bucci McCoy, each session will continue to cultivate the open, reciprocal, and fully engaged dialogue that has become the hallmark of wipCRIT, while building on the foundation and relationships established in previous cohorts.

– Continue refining your personal and conceptual framework

– Further develop your artist voice and statement

– Maintain momentum in your studio journal practice

– Engage in discussions on art theory and contemporary practice

This streamlined format focuses on what wipCRIT does best – the supportive critical dialogue sessions that have proven so valuable to our artistic community. Cohort Leader: Mary Bucci McCoy

Mary Bucci McCoy is a visual artist as well as a designer, writer and educator. Her intimately scaled, non-objective paintings — materially resonant, poetic meditations on the interrelationships of the human, animal, vegetal and mineral — have been exhibited at venues including Gray Contemporary, Houston, TX; CG2 Gallery, Nashville, TN; Kingston Gallery, Boston, MA; Museum St. Wendel, St. Wendel, Germany; Boeckercontemporary, Heidelberg, Germany; The Curator Gallery, New York, NY; Marquee Projects, Bellport, NY; Key Projects, Long Island City, NY; The Neon Heater, Findlay, OH; Divisible, Dayton, OH; and Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Philadelphia, PA. Mary has been an artist in residence at the Studios at Mass MoCA and the Vermont Studio Center, and her work has also been supported by a Painting Fellowship from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and Faculty Development Awards from Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA where as part-time faculty she taught the senior fine arts capstone seminar, graphic design, ceramics, and professional development. Her design practice encompasses web and print design for artists and other creative thinkers and practitioners as well as branding and content development. She has written about art extensively including feature articles and exhibition reviews for the art press and exhibition essays for artists. Mary has also worked to support and expand opportunities for artists by service through the Beverly Cultural Council, Massachusetts Artists Leaders Coalition, and the Women’s Caucus for Art. Mary was born in northern New Jersey, spent her formative years in the greater Philadelphia area, and now lives and works on the coast north of Boston. She holds degrees from Tufts University (English) and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. In addition, she has studied ceramic sculpture and glaze technology at l’Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Geneva, Switzerland (now Haute École d’Art et de Design Genève).
