It's been a long-time debate about Boston tech—is consumer dead in Boston? Will the Hub ever become a big consumer tech player?

Boston's consumer tech industry may fly under the radar compared to Silicon Valley, but with companies like TripAdvisor, Wayfair, Care.com, iRobot, and Drizly, B2C is hardly "dead."

This panel discussion is aimed at discovering the areas in which consumer is thriving in Boston, as well as where opportunities exist to start putting Boston B2C on the map. We'll also consider what skill-building and community needs aren't being met by existing meetups or professional groups, where entrepreneurs in the space can turn to find the right kind of talent and mentorship, and how we can best connect our existing consumer startups, assets, and strengths to build an effective consumer cluster in Boston.

This event is part of the Tech & Industry Trends track at Startup Boston 2018.

Our Speakers:
Rob Go, Co-Founder & Partner at NextView Ventures
Rob is a co-founder and partner of NextView, a seed-stage venture capital fund that's invested in a number of consumer companies including BookBub, The Outline, ThredUp, Peach, and TaskRabbit. Previously, Rob was a venture capitalist at Spark Capital, a leading venture capital firm focused on the intersection of media, technology, and entertainment.

Cullen Schwartz, Co-Founder & CEO of DoneGood
Before becoming the cofounder and CEO of DoneGood, Cullen served as the press secretary for the US Department of Agriculture. He changed his career path in 2015 to build a startup based on the incredible power of consumers: whatever we demand, the market supplies. When we demand products made with systems that empower workers and protect the environment, we get more of those--and less products made with systems that exploit people and the planet.

Bob Davis, General Partner at Highland Capital
Bob is a General Partner at Highland focusing primarily on digital media. He currently represents Highland with ALOHA, Beeswax, FRESHLY, Handy, Harry's, Lovepop, SessionM, and Turbonomic.

Prior to joining Highland, Bob was the CEO & Founder of Lycos; a startup he took from inception to $2 million in venture capital funding, to it becoming the most visited online destination in the world. Under his leadership, Lycos jumped from the fastest IPO in Nasdaq history, a mere nine months from inception to offering, exceeding Wall Street estimates for 22 consecutive quarters, and grew to a global media entity.
