In this four-session course, we will explore the popular impact of the work of a few of the founding scholars of Critical Race Theory such as Derrick Bell, Kimberlé Crenshaw, and Gloria Ladson-Billings. We will engage in a case study of the media controversy that merged in 2021-22, and its ongoing impact in 2024. Finally, we will examine the ongoing tension between the concepts of race consciousness and color blindness, and how these concepts illuminate or hinder the ongoing American dialogue about race

Instructor: Joshua Frank
