Weird Phishes will return to Thunder Road (with openers Walk Talk and Escaper) on January 25 to perform their jam-heavy take on Radiohead's classic album "In Rainbows." Their re-imagining of the seminal record is complete with unexpected teases, Phish-inspired jams and clever mashups. Following the album performance, the band will continue the night with a second set of surprises and improvised jams.
Weird Phishes is exactly what it sounds like - the iconic melancholy rock songs of Radiohead completely reborn as danceable, crunchy jams. With full-album performances, unexpected mashups, and gluey funk-driven improvisation, their jam-heavy take on alt-rock classics has sparked an unexpected energy in audiences across the northeast.
A quick glance at the band’s social media gives a glimpse into why this unlikely mashup proves worthwhile. “Bought tickets on a whim because I love both bands, had wanted to check out the club, and thought it would be amusing. I was not expecting such incredible musicianship and thought that had gone into their set...it was one of the best shows I’ve seen in years.” Said one user. “Clean, creative mashups of a favorite album and great Phish selections. Great energy.” says another. “Impossibly excellent show.”
In July 2019, Weird Phishes solidified their place in the New England jam community, playing back-to-back afterparties after Phish’s performances at Fenway Park. With a growing fanbase and an ever-changing setlist, the band continued their breakout year with a fall run to the midwest.
Weird Phishes capped off 2019 with more northeast shows including Phish afterparties in Providence and New York (upcoming, 12/28).
Escaper is a Brooklyn, NY based band that blends rock, funk and jazz into a fusion of danceable spacey jams. (Ropeadope Records) The definition of an “escaper” is, “one who breaks loose from confinement.” The space rock, spy funk band was named one of "5 Bands You Need to Know" in the “On the Verge” feature of Relix Magazine. The band released their first album with Ropeadope Records in May 2017 to critical acclaim including being named one of three "Release Day Picks" by JamBase. Live for Live Music said, “Their sound is a reckoning force of funky fusion music...there’s no telling how high this band can climb."
Walk Talk identifies as a culmination of time, genre, travel, rhythm, and dance; manifesting love variations and soul vibrations through original songcraft and electrifying live performance.
