A fundraising initiative unlike anything on land or sea: for the third year in a row, Bostonians will gather to support World Ocean School, watching up to 10 people take the plunge into Boston Harbor, walking the plank off the historic schooner and National Landmark Roseway.
The 10 folks set to meet a waterlogged fate were nominated and received the most online donations in their name, with all funds going to provide Boston students with World Ocean School programs this summer.
The first two years of this program helped raise thousands of dollars for World Ocean School, which since 2002 welcomes aboard Roseway more than 1,200 kids each year. Approximately 75% of these children are designated as underserved. They spend anywhere from a few hours to a few days at sea for programs focusing on leadership, community service, and academic advancement. The experience on Roseway not only supports their academic achievement, but improves their communication, self-esteem, and trust in others and themselves.
