Freetown-Fall River State Forest is a large swath of forested land located at Freetown and Fall River, Massachusetts, with the bulk of the forest passing through the center of the town of Freetown. The forest currently covers approximately 5,441 acres and has around 50 miles of unpaved roads and trails, which are used by a large number of hikers and bicyclists in the summer, and cross country skiers and dog sledders in the winter. In keeping with the season, if you believe the rumors, the forest is part of the “Bridgewater Triangle,” which you can read about here: https://mysteriousuniverse.org/2015/06/the-cursed-forest-of-massachusetts/. My brother has hiked in this forest, and although he’s never seen a UFO or Big Foot, he can confirm that it’s a pretty area.
After our walk, we’ll take a winery tour & have a tasting at Newport Vineyards. Newport Vineyards was originally planted in 1977 on a hill overlooking Rhode Island Sound with the goal of producing fine wines and as a way of preserving beautiful agricultural land from rapid development. Aquidneck Island is blessed with one of the most desirable farming areas in the country, if not the world. This extraordinary micro-climate is created by a combination of the warm waters of the Gulf Stream to the south and the moderating effects of Narragansett Bay. These conditions provide a long, cool growing season ideal for developing complex flavors in wine. Since the original vineyard plantings in the 1970s, Newport Vineyards, under the ownership of John and Paul Nunes, has grown to 60 vineyard acres.
First, we’ll take a 30 minute tour of the winery and vineyards to learn each step of the winemaking process. After the tour, we will have our own bartender, who will provide us with cheese plates, 5 tastes of wine, a souvenir glass and reserved bar space for over 1 hour. You may view the winery’s selection of wines at the following link: https://www.newportvineyards.com/shop-products.
