Virtuoso Variations: A Discussion and Performance

The Orchestra Book Club returns to the Center for Arts at the Armory for an afternoon exploring the use of themes and variations in two phenomenal 20th-century orchestral works. We open with the North American premiere of Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz's Symphonic Variations, a great introduction to her unique and exciting style. Then, internationally-renowned pianist Tony Yike Yang joins us for Sergei Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, a devilishly difficult musing on Niccolo Paganini's most famous violin caprice.
