Nationally acclaimed, Boston-born poet, rapper, and educator Oompa, takes over ICA First Fridays with a performance inspired by and in the spirit of Ragnar Kjartansson: The Visitors, a tribute filmed in the ICA’s building.
Artist Bio:
Oompa is a nationally-acclaimed, Boston-born, poet, rapper, and educator, who is forever representing the queer, black, orphaned, hood kids n’ them. She is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions for her music and poetry including NPR’s list of 2020 Slingshot Artists to Watch, two Boston Music Awards, Women of the World Poetry Slam winner in 2017, and is the recipient of the 2019 Brother Thomas Fellowship. WBUR describes the lyric-focused rapper as having a “natural tenderness with language” and calls her verses “funny…incisive and memorable.” With the release of her newest album, Cleo, Oompa has sold out the Sinclair and a number of other Boston venues.
