In Massachusetts, one in twelve residents are of AAPI heritage and AAPI businesses are the fastest-growing ownership sector in the state. Despite this, Asian-owned businesses are still widely misunderstood and inadequately supported. This became especially clear during the COVID pandemic, when AAPI small businesses faced severe customer losses, difficulties accessing relief, and rising anti-Asian bias. This led the Asian Business Empowerment Council (ABEC) at the Asian Community Fund to commission a multi-year study on the matter.
Additional data will bring us closer to the truth and help us move away from misleading narratives that overlook the diverse experiences of the AAPI community, especially its business owners.
Join ABEC in a virtual briefing of their latest report examining the complex and diverse challenges and opportunities experienced by AAPI entrepreneurs and engage in conversation with a panel of experts around policy and practice strategies for change.
The panel discussion will feature Q.J. Shi, Director of ABEC; Massachusetts Secretary of Economic Development Yvonne Hao, Irene Shiang Li, co-founder of Mei Mei Dumplings and PrepShift; and Annie Le, president of Boston Little Saigon—with more speakers to be announced!
Live translations will be available in Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Khmer.
