Alla Prima is a style of painting where the artist paints wet into wet paint usually in one sitting. In this virtual three-week class students will learn how to quickly block in an alla prima portrait. Students will have the opportunity to paint a portrait in a frontal, profile, and three-quarters position. Other discussions will include mixing an array of colors using a limited palette, placing in correct values, and using expressive paint strokes to define outer edges. Students will work from provided photographs giving them ample time to study the form even outside of the classroom. Demonstrations by Copley artist Jo Ellen will guide students along and access to YouTube recordings will be provided.
