8/9 UPDATE: UNDERWAY CANCELLATION

Due to hazardous weather conditions and safety concerns for our guests and crew members, USS Constitution will not be getting underway on Friday, August 9, for the ship’s Purple Heart Commemoration.


The ship will remain closed for public visitation tomorrow due to dredging and pier maintenance.


REMINDER: Starting August 10, USS Constitution will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. for public visitation to support ongoing maintenance until further notice.

USS Constitution is set to get underway on Friday, August 9th, from Charlestown Navy Yard at 10:00 a.m.


At 11:30 a.m., we will fire a 21-gun salute, viewable from Fort Independence on Castle Island.


The ship will be closed for public visitation for the remainder of the day.


THE 2024 SCHEDULE:

Please note that USS Constitution is an active-duty U.S. Navy vessel: the USS Constitution Museum shares details about the underway at the Ship’s discretion as a matter of public interest.


*The Commander of USS Constitution opened a Public Lottery, providing opportunities to join the crew on board the Ship. The lottery was held in early Spring 2024 and is currently closed. All other events are by invitation-only and have been determined for 2024. The public is encouraged to view the Ship from various vantage points throughout Boston’s harbor.


All underway dates are subject to change or cancellation, at any time and at the discretion of the U.S. Navy.


Want to view the Ship from the shore? Here are the best places to see it:

The public can see “Old Ironsides” depart and return from the pier at Charlestown Navy Yard. Traditionally, the Ship departs at 10:00 am and returns between 1 pm – 2 pm.


South Boston’s Castle Island is the location of a 21-gun salute around 11-11:30 am. The public is welcome at this South Boston location where crowds traditionally gather.
