Unearthed Song & Poetry is an open mic series at home.stead bakery & cafe that happens every 3rd Wednesday of the month. Each month we feature a rising musician and poet and encourage any and all poets and musicians to sign up to share 2 pieces of their work. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at &:30pm. $4 cover at the door.
Our featured poet this month is Valerie Duff. Valerie Duff is the author of the collection To The New World (Salmon Poetry, 2010), shortlisted for the Seamus Heaney Centre Poetry Prize (Queen’s University, Belfast). Her poems have appeared in The Common, Solstice, AGNI, POETRY, The Cortland Review and elsewhere. Former managing editor of AGNI and poetry editor of Salamander, she has received an individual artist grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and was the 2015 Poetry Fellow at the Writers’ Room of Boston.
Our featured musician is Nate Taylor. Wanderer, wonderer, journeyman, folksinger — Nate Taylor fuses story and experience on a quest for connection through music — to people, to nature, to truth. Often compared to Nick Drake for his resonant fingerpicking, Taylor paints an ethereal soundscape with his soaring vocals that implores a kind of reverence for the moment. His songs wrestle with love, loss, and purpose in pursuit of the ideal that music can be a force for understanding in an ever more disparate world. While a faithful steward of the Boston folk scene for much of the year, Taylor completed his third annual house show tour in 2017, affectionately titled There And Back Again, or TABA 2017, covering 8300 miles and living out his vision of community through music. In November 2017, Taylor released “A Love Story | Live From America,” a collection of five live recordings from TABA 2017. Join the adventure when Nate comes to your town in 2018.
