Understanding Irish Land Divisions

Ireland has a unique and rather confusing system of land divisions, all of which need to be known and understood to effectively and accurately look for your ancestors. A term such as parish can mean both civil and ecclesiastical. Some townland names are used in multiple counties. Understanding the hierarchy of the land divisions becomes essential to understanding what records are arranged by which division. A county is more akin to a U.S. state. These divisions often result in confusion and frustration when trying to look for records. In this webinar, Senior Genealogist Rhonda R.
