Violin, viola, cello and bass players, join us on Tuesday, Sep. 22, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm to participate in a Traditional Fiddle trial class. There is a $30 fee to register for the online trial class, but if you register for the full term of this class by by 5pm on Thursday, September 24th, the trial class fee will be credited toward your Traditional Fiddle class tuition for the term.
This class focuses on learning tunes from Celtic, American and French Canadian fiddle styles by ear. In addition to learning the tunes, students will explore ornamentation and the stylistic traits that distinguish these styles from one another.
Traditional Fiddle is taught by BMS violin faculty member Maura Shawn Scanlin. In addition to being an accomplished classical violinist, Maura is a member of several touring Boston-based bands including Pumpkin Bread, Rakish, and the Bywater Band. Maura has had the opportunity to compete in and has won the world’s premiere traditional Scottish fiddling competitions. She is a U.S. National Scottish Fiddling Champion, and a winner of the Glenfiddich Fiddle Championship.
