On Halloween night, Beacon Hill becomes one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods for trick-or-treating. On Friday, October 31, 2025, Pinckney and Mount Vernon Streets will close to traffic around 4 p.m., giving families space to wander the brownstone-lined blocks safely. The crowd builds quickly, with younger kids starting early and older trick-or-treaters arriving as dusk falls.
Residents go all-out with decorations — from glowing pumpkins and cobweb-covered stoops to towering skeletons that loom over the sidewalks. The neighborhood’s narrow streets, gas lamps, and brick sidewalks add to the effect, making the whole scene feel like a Halloween storybook come to life. By early evening, the atmosphere is buzzing as hundreds of costumed families move from house to house.
For a quieter detour, Acorn Street offers a cobblestone backdrop lit by lanterns, where neighbors often hand out special treats. Louisburg Square and parts of West Cedar Street are also known for their elaborate displays. If you’re heading over, plan to walk in or take the T — parking is nearly impossible — and wear comfortable shoes, since strollers can be tricky on the uneven bricks.
