Donna Lee, Barry Searle and the Crooked Ledge Band will be performing a tribute to Merle Haggard and Emmylou Harris at the Original Congregational Church, 1 East Street, Wrentham, 7:30 PM, Saturday, Sept. 23. Merle Haggard has been called a legend and “the poet of the common man.” He had more than 40 #1 hits, plus scores of Top Ten songs. He won just about every music award imaginable, both as a performer and as a songwriter, and in 1994 was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. His hits included “Sing Me Back Home,” “Mama Tried,” “Hungry Eyes,” “Okie From Muskogee,” “Working Man Blues,” “If We Make It Through December,” “Yesterday’s Wine” (with George Jones), and many others. He died on his 79th birthday, April 6, 2016.
Emmylou Harris has released many popular albums and singles over the course of her career, and has won 13 Grammys as well as other awards, including induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
In this show Donna Lee, Barry Searle and the Crooked Ledge Band bring to life the music and memory of these two great performers. Donna Lee and the band are the ones who did the very-well-received Patsy Cline tribute in 2016. An internationally renowned vocalist and recording artist, Donna Lee brings her rich mellifluous voice and her many years of experience as an entertainer to the stage, and leaves her audiences with a glimpse of the lives behind the music. Born in Massachusetts, she is a Nashville recording artist whose music has received air play throughout the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, China and Japan.
Tickets for the Sept. 23 concert are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, available at www.musicatocc.org. The event will be in the Fellowship Hall of the church, accessible from the parking lot in the rear. For more information, contact Ken Graves, 508-384-8084, [email protected].
