The Towne family was prominent in Boxford from 1750 to 1932. Over the generations, they came to own hundreds of acres of land in the Tri-Town area. After acquiring the only remaining 19 acres of the farm in 2009, Christine has amassed a collection of photographs, artifacts and documents that provide interesting insight into the family’s life, work, and their relationship with the world around them. These items will be presented, along with a review of the structural restoration process that has taken place and continues to evolve.
A one-hour slide presentation on the history of the Towne family in Boxford will begin at 3:15.pm. Guided walking tours of the property and structures will take place following the slide presentation. Program will take place rain or shine. Boots recommended.
The program is family-friendly, although children must be supervised at all times. Wheelchair accessible. Dogs must be kept leashed. Following the program, visitors are free to explore the adjoining Boxford State Forest on foot or mountain bike.
