Boston Sculptors Gallery is pleased to present the opening reception for two concurrent solo shows, Timber by artist Michelle Lougee and The Wait by artist Liz Shepherd
Michelle Lougee’s exhibition Timber! addresses the impact of our consumerist society on nature. Produced from post-consumer plastic that would otherwise find its way to a landfill, Lougee’s whimsical and playful forms illustrates a framework of tension between material and concept, while contemplating profound problems in our culture and environment.
The Wait, by Liz Shepherd. This exhibit explores the artist’s search for meaning in the aftermath of long days attending a dying parent. The installation uses Shepherd’s printmaking expertise as a springboard. Grids of small etchings recall the now absent figure; four large paintings on panel are in dialogue with the etchings on a facing wall. Painstakingly constructed silk-screened paper-mâché chairs hover and seem to evaporate into a silk-screened mural landscape.
