The Women’s Fund of Essex County will host its 17th Annual Grant Awards Luncheon on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 11:30 am at Danversport, 161 Elliott Street, Danvers, MA. In 2019, The Women's Fund proudly awarded $263,000 to sixteen nonprofit agencies that provide outreach and life skills to women and girls in Essex County. The Luncheon will celebrate the success of the 2019 grant award recipients and recognize their outstanding efforts to improve the lives of women and girls.
Lauren Hersh, an internationally-recognized lawyer, activist, educator and writer working to combat violence against women and girls in schools, online and in the legal arena will be the featured speaker. Hersh is the Founder and National Director of World Without Exploitation, the national coalition to end human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
Ms. Hersh’s work to combat gender violence began at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office, where she prosecuted a wide range of cases impacting women and girls. Realizing that situations of sex trafficking were going unrecognized in 2008, Lauren created one of the first Sex Trafficking Units in the United States. In 2015, Lauren led a movement to pass the NY Trafficking Victims Protection and Justice Act. She recently spearheaded efforts to pass FOSTA-SESTA, federal legislation to hold websites accountable for online exploitation. Lauren’s work has been featured by CNN, The New York Times and numerous other news outlets.
Founded in 2003, The Women’s Fund of Essex County promotes philanthropy and awards grants to organizations providing opportunities and solutions for women and girls in need or at risk throughout Essex County. The Women’s Fund has awarded over $2.1 million to over 180 non-profit programs. The Women’s Fund is a field of interest fund of the Essex County Community Foundation located in Danvers, MA.
