Vance Provey - trumpet

Vance Provey is a Connecticut-based trumpeter and improviser who began trumpet lessons at age 12. His musical journey took a significant turn when he joined the Black Music Division at Bennington College in 1981, teaching alongside Bill Dixon, a pivotal influence on his artistic development. In the 1980s, Provey collaborated with notable figures such as Butch Morris, Rhys Chatham, and Borah Bergman. He also performed with the Gunter Hampel New York Orchestra, contributing to the album Fresh Heat – Live at Sweet Basil. Vance’s discography includes 2020’s Collective Expression (with Bob Gorry and Paul Gunsberg) and 1983 – Motifs 2023 (with Whit Dickey and Spin Dunbar). He has worked extensively with the band New Language Collaborative, and with projects led by multi-instrumentalist David Peck, and released on the Evil Clown label.

John Loggia – drums and percussion

John Loggia is a multi-instrumentalist, who draws the percussive nature out of each instrument he plays: drums, piano, electronics, guitar. He can play in the deepest of pockets and manifest all manner of sounds. Immersed in the arts, he is a painter, production designer for film, co-director of the arts and educational venue, 118 Elliot Gallery in Brattleboro, Vt and the executive producer for the acclaimed documentary film, “Fire Music”.

These sounds circulate in his blood.

Eric Zinman - piano

Eric Zinman was born and educated in Boston, MA . He studied music/composition with Bill Dixon at Bennington College and later George Russell and Jimmy Giuffre at New England Conservatory. He formed a piano trio with percussionist Laurence Cook, bassist Craig Schildhauer and later bassists John Voigt and Jacob William. For years, he has been an active producer, performer and organizer and composer and arranger of ensembles in Boston including Citizen’s Orchestra with Stanley Jason Zappa and the ensemble New Language Collaborative with Syd Smart, drums and Glynis Lomon, cello. Turning away from the music scene he worked in theatre, with poets and with painter Linda Clave. Mr. Zinman has collaborated with artist, Aldo Tambellini in presenting performances which used Tambellini’s films, videos and poetry read with poet singer actress Lo Galluccio. In 2006, he began to play and gain recognition in Europe in collaboration with Austrian based musician/artist Mario Rechtern, and a trio with French bassist Benjamin Duboc and percussionist Didier Lasserre and later Makoto Sato with bassist Yoram Rosillio He has performed in 6 different countries and has been reviewed in 5 different languages. Since 2005 musician/composer Eric Zinman has been recorded and produced on Cadence(US), Ayler, (France) Studio234(USA), Improvising Beings(France. ) and”Nottwo Records(Poland). He is listed in the 19th edition Penguin Guide To Jazz Recordings.

Scott Samenfeld – upright electric bass, ghaita

Scott is a long-time Boston based musician, composer and band leader. He moved to Boston in 1970 from the New York City area where he studied with guitarist Harry Lahey, pianists Keith McDonald and Gabe Julian and bassist Bill Holliday. He studied at Berklee College of Music and was a member of Razzmatazz a jazz, rock, fusion group and Trillium, an avante guard power trio in the 70s. He taught for many years including 5 years at the Guitar Workshop in Boston, the Open Road School, an alternative high school in Waltham, and the Cambridge School in Weston. He formed his group Muse Stew in 1990 which still performs his original compositions regularly. He has also led the Cal Tjader project featuring the music of the great Latin vibraphonist. He has held down the bass chair of the Sounds of Swing big band for almost 45 years.

Scott's group Muse Stew has two CDs - "Crossings" - 1996 and ":Live at the Zeitgeist Gallery" - 2004. He also performs and records regularly with David Peck at Evil Clown Headquarters in Waltham, MA.
