This unique June 15 walking tour of Boston’s boozy past sheds light on the history of alcohol and the various roles it has played in Bostonian society over the centuries. Participants will hear tales of the city’s booming 1600s rum industry, the sophisticated smuggling that took place during the prohibition, and the political revolutions that were brewed within some of Boston’s oldest taverns. Perhaps no name is better known in the New England brewing community than Samuel Adams, one of the Founding Fathers of America and the namesake of the popular beer brand. Adams’s trials and tribulations in business and his family malt house will be recounted as the tour traces the origins of beer in Boston.
