The Softer Side of Asana: A Training for Yoga Teachers with Sandy Kalik Friday, August 2 – Sunday, August 4 Dive into the quieter practices of yoga. In this 24-hour module, yoga teachers will learn techniques to wind down vinyasa classes, spruce up the restorative side of their flow and restore, learn the benefits and methods of restorative yoga, and how to modify their teaching into a more gentle style. Participants will learn how restorative yoga works, how it differs from yin and gentle yoga, and gain a new, deeper understanding of savasana and its role as a baseline pose for restorative postures. This training will include both lecture and practice. Teachers will walk away feeling confident about guiding students through the softer side of asana classes and with an arsenal of tools for further inquiry and learning. In this training yoga teachers will learn: Philosophy and practice of restorative yoga Physical, emotional, and mental benefits of the restorative practice The art of propping to support any body in any restorative pose Sequencing considerations How to use restorative postures to augment vinyasa-style classes The difference between restorative yoga and gentle yoga How to modify a sequence to make it a gentle yoga class The intersection of mindfulness, meditation, and meditative practice The heart of savasana experiential understanding of holding space practice teaching. About Sandy Sandy Kalik started teaching power vinyasa in 2009 and very quickly discovered she needed a chiller practice to balance out all of the active movement.
