Virtual Reality is a hot sector in technology, with many of the current tech giants and several upstarts having delivered on expensive but fully functional, consumer-ready hardware. But without a killer app to drive VR's mass adoption, this is a space still very much in its early stages, not unlike the early days of the mobile apps sector, which led to some of the most financially successful companies we've seen created in the past two decades.

Boston not only has a number of VR innovators, it also has strengths in some of the industries VR seems to have the most potential: health, travel, and gaming.

We've put together a panel of investors, founders, and leaders in the local VR community to discuss the state of the VR ecosystem in Boston; the resources, opportunities, challenges they see for founders interested in VR; and what additional programs and support Boston needs to see a major VR company built here.

If you're a founder, investor, or technologist interested in this space, join us for a great discussion, Q&A, and networking.

This event is part of the Tech & Industry Trends track at Startup Boston 2018.

Our Speakers:
Richard Dulude, Cofounder of Underscore VC
Richard leads Underscore's VR investments; is a mentor to several VR/AR startups in Boston, NY, and LA; and is an investor and contributor to Upload.VR. As a programmer (turned entrepreneur (turned VC)), Richard spends his nights and weekend actively tinkering in the space and building in Unity, and has a side project building the RottenTomatoes of VR content.

Kathy Bisbee, Cofounder & Director of Public VR Lab
Kathy is the co-founder of the Public VR Lab, and serves as the executive director of its parent organization, Brookline Interactive Group, (BIG), a community media arts center in Brookline, MA. Kathy Bisbee is an award-winning, multidisciplinary artist, educator, and filmmaker, producing international films in Latin America and the U.S., and co-producing customized VR content for the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA). She speaks on international panels about Community VR, and recently was invited to present VR/XR content to world leaders at the United Nations in Nairobi, Kenya and on the topics of “Art, Storytelling & Activism,” and “Can Virtual Reality Help Save Reality."
