Très Maresienne (Lisa Brooke, baroque violin; Carol Lewis, viola da gamba; Olav Chris Henriksen, archlute and baroque guitar) will play music by Fontana, Frescobaldi, Rogniono, Uccellini, Legrenzi, Roncalli, and Corelli, among others.

The 17th century saw the rise of the Italian virtuoso instrumental sonata. Violinist Giovanni Battista Fontana was the first in a long line of composers who wrote sonatas that explored the potentials of their own instruments, including the violin, viola da gamba, archlute, and baroque guitar, culminating in Arcangelo Corelli’s violin sonatas (Opus 5, published in 1700). Come hear toccatas, canzonas, sonatas and dances composed in the early baroque by some of the finest musicians anywhere. The program includes a breathtakingly beautiful ornamentation for viola da gamba by Richardo Rogniono, on an original madrigal by Giovanni Palestrina, as well as a charming Passacaglia for baroque guitar by Roncalli. The finale, a dazzling violin sonata in g minor by Corelli, features some of the composer’s own elaborate ornamentation in the slow movements, as well as a spirited Vivace and a lively Gigue.

Très Maresienne has performed for several years in the Boston area, including appearances on the Cambridge Society for Early Music and Museum Concerts Rhode Island concert series. Violinist Lisa Brooke is concertmaster of Symphony by the Sea, and she currently plays with Coro Allegro, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, and New England Classical Singers, among others. She is a founding member of Très, and is frequently heard as a soloist and with many ensembles in Boston and New York.    Carol Lewis and Olav Chris Henriksen are also frequent collaborators with ensembles in the U.S. and abroad, including Capriccio Stravagante, the Boston Camerata and Capella Clausura.
