Everyone dreamed of freedom during the Revolution, especially Black Americans. Realizing that the popular rhetoric of the revolution was not meant to include them, many paved their own way to a new life of liberty and happiness.

Join professional storyteller Valerie Tutson to hear the heroic tales of James Forten, who as a teenager fought against the British navy and later worked to abolish slavery, and Elizabeth Freeman, who in 1781 successfully sued for her freedom, citing the Massachusetts constitution which states that "All men are born free and equal." Bring the whole family to learn the exciting history of African American bravery in the time of the Revolution.

Admission by donation.
