Step into the world of mystery, heart, and unexpected partnerships at the release party for The Princess and The P.I. Join us for a night of conversation, laughter, and celebration with author Nikki Payne, who brings a fresh twist to the detective story with her fierce and relatable heroine, Fiona Addai.
By day, Nikki is a curious tech anthropologist; by night, a storyteller rewriting the rules of classic literature. She’ll share insights into her inspiration and creative process, alongside conversation partner Dr. Shirlene Obuobi—a cardiologist, cartoonist, and author whose own stories about love and resilience have touched readers across the country.
Together, Nikki and Shirlene will explore the fascinating intersection of curiosity, courage, and the power of asking the right questions—whether solving mysteries or matters of the heart.
EVENT DETAILS
- 6:30 PM: Doors Open – Settle in, grab a drink from our cafe and wine bar, and get ready for a great discussion!
- 7:00 PM: Discussion Begins – Nikki and Shirlene will dive into The Princess and The P.I.
- 7:45 PM: Q&A Session – Your chance to ask the author anything!
- 8:00 PM: Signatures, Snapping Pics, and Salutations – Meet the authors, get your book signed, and snap a photo.
- 8:30 PM: Last call - Grab your final pour from the wine bar.
- 9:00 PM: Event Wraps Up – Thanks for joining us!
Each attendee may have one book personalized by Nikki and up to three additional books signed without a personalization (including books brought from home).
Tickets are limited, so grab yours soon! If the event sells out, you can join the waitlist. Should any spots open up, you’ll have 24 hours to register before we offer them to the next person.
ACCESSIBILITY
Check-in will take place at our front entrance on Brattle Street. If you have any accessibility needs, you're welcome to use our side entrance (located on the right side of the building), which is wheelchair accessible and has a ramp.
Guests who would benefit from priority seating or any additional assistance are encouraged to reach out in advance — just email us at [email protected]. We're more than happy to make arrangements to ensure you feel comfortable and supported.

BOOK PICKUP POLICY
If you purchased a book with your event ticket but can’t make it to the event—and don’t request a refund—we’ll happily hold your book for pickup for up to 6 months after the event date.
We’ll be in touch via the email you provided at checkout to help coordinate pickup. After 6 months, if we haven’t heard from you or made other arrangements, we’ll consider the book abandoned property and may donate it or return it to inventory so it can find a new home.

By day, Nikki Payne is a curious tech anthropologist asking the right questions to deliver better digital services. By night, she dreams of ways to subvert canon literature. She’s a member of Smut U, a premium feminist writing collective, and a cat lady with no cats.
ABOUT THE PRINCESS AND THE P.I.
Famed Reddit detective Fiona Addai is great at solving problems—online, that is. Cold cases, reality TV scandals, everyone calls on @Princess_PI. It’s her way of escaping her strict religious life at home and the memory of her brilliant brother’s sudden death. But when the sheltered sleuth tries to apply her inquisitive skills to real life, her plan to reclaim her late brother’s invention from the ruthless corporation that stole it goes disastrously wrong. Now, instead of getting justice, Fiona finds herself accused of murder.
Maurice Bennett is no stranger to insomnia. These days, he’s not losing sleep over the cases he’s solving—but running from the one he couldn’t. Instead, he’s been settling for small-time scandals that don’t stir up the guilt he’s buried. But when he spots Fiona Addai at the center of a murder investigation, something clicks. And for the first time in a long while, Maurice feels that old spark of intrigue.
However, Fiona is not the helpless damsel she appears to be. Shirlene Obuobi is a Ghanaian American cardiologist, cartoonist, and author who grew up in Chicago, Illinois; Hot Springs, Arkansas; and the Woodlands, Texas. Her novels, ON ROTATION and BETWEEN FRIENDS & LOVERS, have been featured on multiple national outlets such as Teen Vogue, the Washington Post, and Good Morning America. When she’s not in the hospital, Shirlene can be found drawing comics, writing on her phone, and talking to everyone who will listen about love stories and women’s heart health.
