Renowned tenor saxophonist Chico Freeman will join the Makanda Project has a featured guest for the first time. Mr. Freeman, who recently returned to New York after several years living in Europe, has enjoyed a 40-year career as a bandleader as well as working with a who's who of jazz greats including McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones, Dizzy Gillespie, Jack DeJohnette, and Sam Rivers. The evening's program will include one of Mr. Freeman's compositions newly arranged by Makanda Project leader John Kordalewski; a composition by South African trumpeter Feya Faku also featuring the Boston Citywide String Orchestra; and several pieces from the Makanda Project's repertoire of Makanda Ken McIntyre compositions. There will also be live painting sponsored by MassArt's sparc! the ArtMobile, and a dessert bar to benefit the Friends of the Dudley Library scholarship fund.
