This course will open a window onto what many consider to be the world's most interesting wine culture. We can all be grateful to the extremely mountainous nature of the Italian peninsula for creating geographically isolated areas and dozens of specific food and wine cultures. This class will consider four great Italian red wines and help connect them to their place and cuisine. How have the local cultivars, weather, geography, and cuisine contributed to the nature of each wine? Including the northern, central and southern regions and progressing in order of strength, the class will consider Valpolicella (the Veneto), Chianti (Tuscany), Barolo and Barbaresco (Piemonte), and Taurasi (Campania). The class will re-create La Vita Bella as appropriate snacks are served along with the wines. Instructor: David Gansler
