In the latter half of the nineteenth century, the women of Boston created numerous clubs across the City. These remarkable organizations were often social, but also geared toward improvement - of one’s self and one’s community. The women’s clubs of Boston became the incubators of great ideas and strong women. Sometimes the clubs formed within a neighborhood and members came from a single ethnic or religious group. Other clubs formed around a specific interest or goal the members shared. These clubs provided a place for women to express their goals for the expansion of women’s roles in the community.
Please note: seating at the Loring-Greenough House is extremely limited, so please arrive early as once the space is filled we won't be able to allow more attendees in. This event is co-sponsored by the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club, the Boston Women’s Heritage Trail, and the Jamaica Plain Historical Society. Free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
