The Brattle revisits the work of acclaimed director Bi Gan with a film series featuring his visually arresting 2016 debut feature KAILI BLUES, his evocative 2018 followup LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT, and his latest, the epic 2025 sci-fi drama RESURRECTION. Join us May 2–5 for this brief series of work by the audacious young director, screening at The Brattle Theatre, Cambridge.
RESURRECTION • Sun, May 3 at 8:00pm; Tue, May 5 at 4:00, 7:15
In his intoxicating new film, visionary Chinese director Bi Gan (Long Day’s Journey into Night, Kaili Blues) plunges us into the celluloid-drenched imagination of a futuristic outcast pursued through his own dreams by a hunter that can take on the appearance of those closest to him. Unapologetically elliptical as it hopscotches through eras and movie genres, yet reverent in its homages, RESURRECTION is a staggering work of imagination and an emotionally affecting love-letter to cinema.
2025 • dir Bi Gan w/Huang Jue, Jackson Yee, Li Gengxi, Mark Chao, Shu Qi • 160 min • DCP • Chinese with English subtitles
