The 16th annual Emerson Film Festival, organized by the Visual and Media Arts Department, will be held Sunday, March 20, at 12:00 pm, in the Bright Family Screening Room of the Paramount Center, where the students’ work will be judged in different categories. Winners will be chosen for the ELA Film Festival, which will be held on a date to be announced.
The festival is free and open to the public, seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The Emerson Film Festival has two programs: At 12:00 pm, the first program, Anti-Gravity, includes mostly whimsical fare. At 2:00 pm, the second program, Gravity, includes more serious drama. The films span animation, narrative, documentary, experimental, and more, and were produced both in and out of the classroom by students and alumni. A reception in the Black Box theater will follow and will include presentation of festival and departmental awards.

A story about the dissociated feeling one get when one watches film, and how that leads to a new and exciting adventure.
Hydropolis, Dir. Pamela Mora and Ricky Downes, 3 minutes
A journey into an underwater town disrupted by a scuba diver who plans on collecting coral.
Depths, Dir. John Stewart, 4 minutes
A visual poem about undersea life shot entirely at the New England aquarium.
ShaynePaints, Dir. Claudio Zungri, Jacob Fagliano, 10 minutes
A portrait of Santa Barbara Artist, Shayne Tuthill. Shayne explains his philosophies, the adversities of his childhood, and his love of creating a genuine bond between people and the art he creates.
Search for Peace, Dir. Mitsuko Nakagawa, 4 minutes
A documentation of an installation addressing current problems in society, which arise from “not listening others.”
Departure, Dir. Emily Pietro, 4 minutes
A young boy receives a surprisingly expected visit from aliens.
Hideaway, Dir. Andrew Pattenaude, 5 minutes
A comparison of the past and the present as the main character recreates moments from his early childhood.

Winter Vacation, Dir. Roger JC Lee , 22 minutes
After running away from home, a teenage couple lives in a junkyard inside a broken van. When the weather becomes unbearably cold, they break into a hotel to seek warmth, and things get out of hand.
Aster and Sidney, Dir. Sean Temple, 19 minutes
Aster and Sidney are survivors. What destroyed their world is unknown, but what keeps them alive is a constant state of vigilance. Former strangers, the pair has bonded against the threat of those who would harm them for the food in their packs or the shoes on their feet.
Fade, Dir. Ruoyu Guo, 18 minutes
FADE follows an old man who is struggling with Alzheimer’s. One day in winter, the old man gets lost on his way to visit his wife’s grave. His son finds him by the riverside and accompanies him to the cemetery.
Tap, Dir. Nathan Ng, 5 minutes
Separated by age and personality, Scotty and Sarah are brother and sister that don’t tend to get along. This particular night Scotty is up late trying to learn how to tap dance while Sarah is attempting to sneak out.
Terranaut, Dir. Molly Benjaminson, 14 minutes
Eden, a former astronaut, comes home to her partner Virginia, a farmer who values home and family above all else. Tensions are struck as the two attempt to fall into an old routine that might be gone forever.
