Join us for a conversation between artists and curators on the importance of textiles as art objects and cultural artifacts specifically in relation to the African Diaspora. Also catch a sneak peek of the Stitched Into Memory exhibit.


Moderated by Edmund Barry Gaither, Director and Curator at the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists


Panelists include
-Pamela Parmal, David and Roberta Logie Curator of the Textile Arts Department at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston
-Ife Franklin, Textile Artist and Founder of the Ancestor Cabin Project
-Stephen Hamilton, Textile Artist, Illustrator & Arts Educator, and Lead Artist for the Stitched Into Memory Project


Stitched Into Memory is an arts education initiative teaching ancient West African textile arts to Boston youth. Led by artist and educator, Stephen Hamilton, with the generous support of the New England Foundation for the Arts, and in collaboration with the Friends of Fort Point Channel, this project will celebrate and commemorate the historic and contemporary African Diasporic communities of Boston. There will be a sneak peek of the final piece during this event however the official opening reception will take place Saturday, July 29 at Atlantic Wharf.
