Join us for a series of winter lectures at Fruitlands Museum. We’ll be gathering in the Museum cafe to enjoy some hot beverages and lively discussions about the history of the site and its collections.

For Women’s History Month, two of our very own Cultural Site Interpreters will be giving short talks spotlighting the history of the women connected with the site, including the Alcott family and the Shakers.

Amy Brown will be discussing the lives of the Shaker Sisters, exploring how the religious movement offered nineteenth-century women equality, education, and career opportunities, as well as a sense of community and comfort.

Helen Batchelder will be diving into the Alcott women, particularly Anna Alcott. While often seen as the dutiful eldest daughter, Anna was a rebel in her own right and her life story promises to reveal more about the Alcott Family than even her sister’s writings.

About the speakers: Amy and Helen have been working at Fruitlands Museum for a combined total of over 25 years, bringing with them a wealth of experience sharing the stories connected to the site both with visitors at Fruitlands and with community members at local libraries.
