“Try thinking of yourself as a stick-bug in a tree. You are an extension of the contexts of your life, and they are an extension of you. You do not end with your skin or your tax ID number. You are generations, communities, you are ecologies. Who am I as a stick-bug if there is no tree? There is no way to respond to the complexity around us without accessing our own complexity.” — Nora Bateson (Originator of Warm Data Labs)
Now more than ever our communities are divided and polarized. The possibilities for people to respond to events of the polycrisis depend upon their ability to improvise and learn together within their complexity. One way to tend to this ability to commune is through Warm Data practices.
Join us to engage in a Warm Data Lab!
What is a Warm Data Lab?
It's like the best after-dinner conversations you’ve ever had, with people you may have never met before. Participants share their stories and observations about a common question, moving at will among small groups and inside conversations to explore their perspectives from multiple viewpoints. Moves whenever and wherever your curiosity takes you, listening to and often sharing whatever occurs to you.
At the end, we come back together as one group and offer what we’ve noticed, weaving together the sense we’ve been making.
These experiences have been described as a “kaleidoscope of conversation,” packed with enriching stories, laughter, and insight. Your experience may nourish you soul, transform your approach to work, life, and community, and perhaps, create space for new relationships to flourish. They may even plant new seeds for community projects to renew and revitalize community life.
Cost: $10-25. Please don't let cost be an impediment to your joining us!
How do I prepare?
No prep needed! Bring your curiosity, open mind, open heart, and perhaps a friend. English will be our shared language.
When is it?
Gathering will begin at 1:30 PM. We will promptly serve Warm Data at 2 PM. After finishing around 4 PM, light snacks will be offered. Bring your favorite to share!
How do I get there?
If you drive: Park in the driveway to the left of the entrance (but NOT in the parking lot to the left of the driveway).
Public transportation: Take the T's Orange Line to Malden Center and walk ~five minutes (2/10 of a mile).
