Summer Expo “Challenge me: By what I have to SAY not by my SKIN!”

Organized by (REEP) ROXBURY ENVIRONMENTAL EMPOWERMENT PROJECT youth of ACE on September 8, 2018 will bring over 100 young people to be gathered at our annual Youth Summit.

This year’s summit THEME is “Summer build-up EXPO summit” Showcasing creative ways to challenge the mind: By what I have to SAY not by my SKIN!” Ignorance is taking over the minds of our community but the YOUTH are not standing still. You think you know but you have not been in my shoes or environment. Your prejudice will not define my Gender, my education, my culture, my ethnicity, my political will, my nutrition, my state of mind. Together we must restore our identities!

Young people from Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea and Dorchester attended the all-day summit, which features youth-led workshops, CultureBoom projects, an open mic and DIY ways to get involved. In addition to REEP, we have youth organization such as Bikes Not Bombs, Boston Student Advisory Council & Green Roots leading workshops on topics spanning from Community organizing methods and theory of change to community resiliency and fighting racism, sexism and homophobia. Exploring why such diverse ethnic groups find unities in colorism?

Other activities include Youth team building, MICbattle, Youth tokenCoin demonstration, DIY stations, design your vacant lot throughout the day. The goal of the day is to value the idea exchanges, educate why our daily struggles occur and movement building devoted to helping youth develop their skills and abilities to become positive agents of change in their communities by challenging the comfort zone.
